Why 0800 number is also called a freephone number?

0800 numbers are also known as freephone numbers (or toll free, freecall numbers). Why?

That’s quite logical really. Reason being, 0800 number calls made by the customers are free of charge, they are absolutely free. It doesn’t matter for how long the customer talks to this number he will have to pay nothing.

It follows a reverse mechanism, whereby the business that has this number is charged for any incoming call. The call charges depend on the call package the company is using. So if the customer calls you, they don’t have to worry about the duration or the call charges as you as a business will be paying the cost.

So is it worth having an 0800 number and bare the cost of incoming calls on yourself?

Answer is simple, YES.

0800 number will cost you extra but there are many benefits that can be reaped only if you have an 0800 number. A freecall to customer means more enquiries, better feedback and most important of all satisfied customer. And almost in all cases benefits of a freephone will outweigh its costs.
